Evaluation On My Pitch

On the 28th April I presented my pitch to the whole class about my idea on Digital Boxes when looking at some of the main factors that you are meant to do when presenting a pitch I don’t believe that I did enough to make it a persuasive pitch in order for my idea to be picked as my organization of the task was very poor and last minute instead of spending more time on the project.

I created my pitch on power point and tried to add in as much research I could into the pitch but the problem with this because it meant that I contanly kept looking down at what I had printed out which meant that I couldn’t actually speak to the group next time I will make a shorter pitch and put it on cards where I can quickly glance at them, this would have been better because it then means that I can look at the people who I am telling the pitch too. Another thing I would have changed would be for it too look more exciting instead of it just being slide upon slide of the same boring set up and instead I should have done it on Prezi which is a website that lets you do presentations online and it makes it look more interesting also then it would be accessible from everywhere not just on my laptop or a  memory pen, when creating a presentation online it can benefit when adding pictures and videos to make it more interesting for the people I am showing it too.

Overall I believe that even though I was able to get my message across in what I want to do it could have been much more fun and exciting and enjoyable for the people watching so next time I will remember keep sentences as short as possible and also colour and picture are great for a presentation also compare your show to others to show what you are aiming for.

Script Research

Terrestrial television is a mode of television broadcasting which does not involve satellite transmission or cables such as Sky, Virgin and Freeview boxes, this means that old televisions now cant pick up analogue channels like they used to 10 years ago, and instead everyone has to either buy new digital televisions or digital boxes and connect them up to your original television.

I got this information from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrestrial_television I have also changed a bit of the sentence so it makes more sense to the viewers watching.

I will show you just how easy it is to connect up a digital box with a television for those of you that are having issues.
(Connect both sides of the Scart Leads into the back of the digital box and also the back of the television, also don’t forget to plug in also your digital box)

In order for me to realise how a digital box is properly set up I took to youtube to find out how is the quickest and easiest way it is too set up a digital box to an old television http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL8D6MWMW_I even though it is an American it still shows how to set it up to an analogue television.

It looks as easy as that but many of you at home are having issues. Visit the DIGITALUK website for more information on setting up.

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/ is a fantastic website that lets the audience know about the digital switch over and can help people who are finding it difficult during the switchover.

But not many box televisions are connected up anymore as people normally now just go out and buy new digital televisions for as cheap as £100. This leaves us asking what happens to these old televisions?

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/essentials-c16ldib11-hd-ready-16-led-tv-08807897-pdt.html Here is the a very cheap television that is both Digital and is in HD this just compares to televisions over 5 years ago when this TV would cost about £300. This just shows the prices televisions have to compete with nowadays.

Changes in digital television – Graphics and Voice Over

Ceefax gone - Ceefax is the BBC Teletext information service which is transmitted through analogue signals it began in 1974 and it still runs regularly filling BBC2’s overnight schedule the interactive service will run until 24 October 2012, in line with the digital switchover, Ceefax used to be a great way for getting all news stories right in front of your eyes also you used to be able to book holidays off it which was always a bonus.
The best way to collect research for Ceefax I believe would be online http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceefax tells you everything you need to know about the soon to be gone interactive service such as when it began and when it is expected to finish and also  how can you still see it.

Red button interactive: The red button is a feature that is on BBC channels and has changed the world of television as now with the red button you can do various things such as:

  • Subtitles – The red button now offers this choice of watching television if you are deaf or haven’t got the greatest of hearing, this is a brilliant idea as it is means that you can just read what they are saying if you have a problem with your hearing.

  • Learn more about a certain programme – With digital terrestrial television you get a built in television guide which is a huge thing because there is no longer any need to buy certain papers just for the television guide also this guide comes with an information button on your controller this enables you to get more information about a program.

  • Join in when sat at home – The red button on BBC allows you to join in with certain shows at home and even make a difference in television shows like Eurovision where you have the chance to press your red button and join in with the voting this is a fantastic experience because there are no numbers that you have to ring or text just simply press the red button on the controller.

When wanting to find out about the red button I again used the internet http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tv_and_radio/5345480.stm and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Red_Button but also tried it out for myself at home on my own television when the Eurovision was on.

Evaluation On Changes In Terrestrial Television

From my initial idea of talking thinking about creating a program that is based around digital boxes and also the digital switchover I believe that a lot has changed and I believe that it has changed for the good too and it was mainly because of my group, the problem that I had with the start when concerning my group was in fact that some of the people in the group are really unreliable and this was a huge worry for me even though I had everyone’s number so would be able to contact them which I had to do several times although when we all came in I believe that we worked brilliantly, in my group I had Danny Jack who from the start shared the same views as me and I wanted to work with him on this project because his pitch was about the digital switchover and my original idea of the digital boxes also talked about the digital switchover so I have always thought it would be ideal to work with Danny, another reason is that Danny has a fantastic attendance and someone who I can rely on to always be in and share idea’s. Fred is someone who has never been consistently in, in lessons but when he is in he brings great ideas to the table and it was because of Fred that we changed our overall idea to The Changes In Terrestrial Television also Fred was our reporter and I believe that he is very talented in front of camera as he can create sentences from the top of his head and is also great at interviewing people such as members of the public and also the store manager at Hewitts where we where allowed to film, also Fred was excellent at organizing a Skype interview with Max Velody from ITN and it was his idea to try and do an interview through skype also he was interviewing Max in the live show and was able to improvise without questions although I had already printed some off for him. Luis Winder is another member of our group who isn’t always in because he has to travel far every morning but I have wanted to work with Luis as I know he is brilliant as a vision mixing and also is very organized when picking the roles that we wanted Luis wasn’t in so I decided to give him the role as the vision mixing although I believe now that he would make a brilliant director but with him not being in I had to choose the roles myself, Luis is also talented on final cut and knows what shots are best to fit into where which was another reason why I thought he would be good as our vision mixer and editor.  Nyasha Tsikai was our director and someone through this process that I worked very closely with I have great respect for Nyasha and believe that he was capable for being the director as he is older and more mature than the rest of the people in our group I don’t have a problem with Nyasha although I believe that he needs to write his ideas down because in my opinion he has some excellent ideas but doesn’t write them down which can be a problem because after explaining the ideas it hard to remember some of them. I felt that I was a good producer because I took a lot of time to help produce this show such as writing scripts and looking at research and also thinking of ideas to make our show great, I felt that I would be a good producer although it doesn’t really test my ability because I chose to be the presenter as there wasn’t any other role where I could be a presenter and something else except producer.

I believe that the filming of the VT could have went a bit better than it did because when we went to the Sharston skip we was not allowed to film inside there premises which meant that we could only film outside of there site, the shot that I wanted to get was of the old televisions been thrown out because there is various questions online that people are wondering what happens to the old televisions when they have been recycled so I was looking to show people shots of televisions in a skip but we managed to get an interview with a member of staff where it was good to hear his opinions on the matter, Nyasha was also able to secure an interview with Andrew from Hewitts in Sharston too which was terrific as it meant that we could hear the views from someone who has worked with televisions over the digital switch over.

From my point of the final show went really well but I never seen the final product which means that I don’t know yet what time we where able to get but I think we organized it really well before although there was a few technical problems with setting up the digital box but we overcame that. The skype interview from my opinion was successful as there wasn’t any technical problems and everyone could hear what was being said and see everything correctly, so I believe that the group performed well.

Producer

For my assignment I was both the producer and also the presenter I believe that I have done an exceptional job as the producer as I believe with out me in the team we wouldn’t have done any work I believe I was an excellent motivator and expressed my ideas thoroughly. My first initial idea was in fact to talk about digital boxes and the digital switch over but after sitting down with my group and discussing the idea we all came to a decision to that my idea was to open and we had the show only was meant to be 10 minutes long which meant that I had to cut down my idea. When trying to think of new ideas we all agreed that The Changes In Terrestrial Television was much more of an appropriate road to go down, as the producer it was my first task to create a shooting schedule for my group which I did when sat around speaking to the group. Our shooting schedule didn’t go too according to plan but we was able to film everything that we wanted including getting an interview with a store manager (Andrew) in Hewitts which was great because he knew exactly what we where asking and was able to answer every question with complete knowledge. It was my idea to go and film a company although I didn’t expect that we where going to be allowed to film there because of product placement although the manager was more than welcome of us filming and signed a consent form.
As the producer I helped bring everyone together and make sure that everyone in my group was either in or knew what they where doing and keeping them motivated this meant that I had to have excellent attendance which I believe I did have also I was prepared to work late with my group in order to film an important shot. I also created the main scripts for the whole group including for the reporter in the VT Fred but after creating a script he also improvised on what he was saying from what he had been researching about which was terrific also I created interview questions for both interviews with the store manager and also vox pops, the script for the studio was the toughest I believe as it took a lot of research in order to make sure that what I would be saying was true and correct.
My role in the main show was still both the producer and also the presenter I believe that I again performed well as the producer as I collected up my team for filming also I arrived earlier than most people in order to prepare, another job that I took on myself was to create a small VT project on motion where I used graphics and a voice over to help explain some changes in television I also helped set up the set and offered advice about where to put certain things in order to make it look better and more professional.

Ricardos Final Show 30th May

On the final day where we where filming our shows I decided to come in a bit before half 9 just to make sure I had everything set up and ready. I began to help set up the equipment for the day ahead because I knew at some point that I would be using it. I began to get in touch with my group Nyasha, Fred, Luis and Danny this was to ensure that they will be in and ready for the long day ahead, after hearing that both Nyasha and Luis was going to be in a bit later on I began to worry a bit because our group didn’t have a rehearsal the week before, also all the groups names where being picked at random to see what time each group gets and the reason I didn’t want to go first was because for our set we where going to organise a live skype interview and the process to set up Skype live is difficult and we needed to have all our group in to help. To my relief our group was third which meant that we would have time to set everything up and be ready in time for our show, this also enabled me to create a call sheet and update the script which proved pivotal because there was a few minor mistakes that had to be changed also I was able to sit down with the group and discuss set ideas and any other ideas that came to mind.
After everything was ready to go we uploaded everything onto the tricaster which meant that there wouldn’t be any more struggle in the dying minutes before we went live also I helped create a structure to the show with times and what will showing this was helpful to everyone including the director and also the vision mixer who was happy with how everything looked, we also set up skype for the interview with Freds dad Max who works for ITN this was great because we where able to test the call a few times to make sure that there isn’t any technical problems. I also set up the studio with props that we was going to be using such as the old television and the digital box that I will be setting up live when filming we decided to do this because it makes it more entertaining for the viewers and its easier to watch someone do it than just getting told how to do it, when rehearsing before the main show it was too long which was a huge problem because we have to fit everything into a ten minute show.
We did not complete a full rehearsal before because we had to be able to fit in an interview with Max Velody from ITN and didn’t want to keep him waiting for too long which meant that we had to go try it with only practicing half of it, during the show I was the presenter and I felt as if it went well but there where a few slight problems such as when I was going to do the live set up with the television and the digital box and the reason was because the actual digital box never turned on because of a technical difficulty which meant that I had to improvise on the spot and tell people what would happen if it did come on, also another problem that I noticed was that the show seemed to run a bit too long I believe this was just simply because of a lack of communication between the director and the floor manager because we had to cut off the interview with Max Velody which was a hard thing to do when someone is half way between explaining the answer, but I felt from my perspective that I did well as the producer and also as the presenter.
