Content Of My Presentation:
My
presentation will be on digital boxes and why they have become such a huge part
of everyone's life and everyone will now
have wont be restricted to the 5 analogue channels. Many people now have freeview
built into the televisions now but still there are some people out there that
mightn't want to purchase an new television and rather sick with there old one
which only has analogue channels then a digital box is best to buy.
It
will also include pictures and videos that I have found on various websites
that relate with my chosen topic also I short video of me connecting the cables
into an old television to show how to set it up. This means that I will need to
get an old television and a simple digital box in order to show people how its
done.
My
ultimate goal will be to show and a explain to people why the digital switch
over happened and what you can do if you don’t have a television with freeview
built in.
Research and Material:
In
order for me to find about the actual reasons why the digital switch over I
will have to research into it which means both looking for primary research and
secondary research will come in handy when talking about the subject. For my
primary research I plan on travelling to stores around Manchester and hopefully
getting a few interviews with colleagues that have been working there for over
10 years maybe to get an insight into what it has been like working through the
digital switch over and see how they coped. Also I would like to go around and
speak to people on the street and find out there verdict on the switch over
whether they bought new televisions or whether they stuck to buying a digital
box.
My
secondary research will be done by looking at video and news articles on the
internet to get a better understanding for myself into why it happened and was
it a good choice.
Questions To My Guest:
I would hopefully like my guest to be someone who works in a television store such as Comet and Currys.
•How
long have you worked with selling televisions?
•With
you working for that amount of time, how big was the digital switch over for
your company?
•Do
you see more people buying televisions now rather than digital boxes?
•Do
many digital boxes get sold nowadays?
•In
the future do you still expect digital boxes to be on the market?
Interesting Stats About The Change Over:
189 households and interviewing 25 in more depth, was that 60% of digital newcomers took Freeview and 40% Sky.

The
research also found virtually all homes' main televisions were digital-enabled
by November 14 and by mid-December 95% of second sets were also ready.
Just
5% of homes said digital was worse than analogue and 94% were either positive
or neutral about the switch-off itself.
Digital
UK's publicity and community work to get everyone ready for the change was also
deemed to have been successful. Only 15% said they would have liked more
information.
Nearly
75% of people told researchers they were not worried about it. However, 16%
were unaware switchover would affect analogue television recorders.
A
spokesman for Copeland Digital Group said: "The switch to digital has been
recognised as a
very positive change, on the whole well managed and well received, with several
benefits for local people and for the area.”
