21 May Online Diary

Today was the assessment day where we  where filming our news broadcast, I arrived at 9.30 ready to be a producer when at the last minute I was asked to be the guest on the show because non of the other guests had arrived I felt slightly disappointed because I liked the idea of a live music performance at the end with rolling credits, this meant that not only did I have to be the producer but also a guest so the first thing I had to do was to go and speak to the presenter who was Erin to find out the questions she was going to ask me.  For my role as a producer I was helping with the set ideas another thing I like to do as a producer is build the team up and make them confident about what they are doing which is why is why I compliment them when they have done a good job and also before I go round and see how each of my team is doing. The order for the show was Kurdish, Busking, Media Jobs, Comedy, Guest Interview, Unlicensed Taxis, Sport, Android vs Apple, Animal Cruelty. At the end of the broadcast I felt as if we had done a fantastic job and everything had run smoothly.

21st May - What I Did As The Producer

When being the producer for the live show it was important for me to be involved as much as possible which meant that I helped with both setting up and packing away this enabled me to get a clear mind of where everything would go. I also tried to keep in regular contact with our director Ashley to hear what he wants me to do also if there are any last minute changes to the production. Another job of mine was to keep up to date with all colleges that I would be working alongside to make sure they where all coming in which meant that I had to sent out various texts in order to get everyone in on time. Erin was our presenter so it was important for me to keep in contact with her to make sure the script was fine and able to be put onto the autocue. I also tried to keep everybody on my team feeling good about themselves so I kept on compliments as I believe compliments will make people feel better which will result in a better performance.

300 Word Pitch On Comedy On The Streets

For my own VT I have decided to do something that I enjoy doing which is making people laugh, everyone has a funny bone in there body and in my opinion comedy can bring the best out of people even if its telling a simple joke to make your mates laugh or to cheer people up when they are feeling down.
My VT is going to show to people the types of jokes that you can tell and where to find them and will hopefully give people confidence to tell them to people.
It will also include when isn’t it a good time to tell jokes in certain situations and which jokes will cause more offense to people.

My main guest is going to be Andrew Lee, who is a very good friend of mine who also came runner up in the northwest young comedian of the year after losing out on points. I will be asking him various of questions on his experiences in the competition.

I will also be interviewing various students from Manchester College and finding out what they like to do to make themselves laugh and also find out if they think there is a wrong time for comedy and also what do they know about comedy in Manchester.

Even though not many people know it, but there are lots of places in Manchester where young people can go to try out comedy if that interests them. What people don’t realize is that all famous comedians and comedy actors had to start somewhere and most of them started by doing stand up routines at open mic events at pubs and clubs.

Hopefully after filming this VT I will gain knowledge of stand up in Manchester and will both help me if I ever think about a hobby of being a comedian.

The Final Live Event - 23rd May

Today was the final time of filming the live acts as there was no more rehearsals and it was the final show, i believe today was a huge success as we filmed a live show from the start till the end without stopping to sort out anything. I arrived in today at half 9 and straight away began to write my script as i was sent the name of the last performer who was unsure of coming in, as my role of the presenter it was to write the script and make sure it was successfully on the auto cue, after saving the script onto the pen drive and putting it into the HP laptop i soon found out a few problems with the software not being able to read the word document, this was a huge problem for me as it was too late to completely learn all my lines which meant that i had to change the file format, then after putting the pen drive back into the laptop it was successful which meant that i was able to read it off the auto cue.

After speaking to the director at the time "Luis Winder" i soon had to change my script because the act that was wary of coming in wasn't attending this meant that i had to delete a piece of script that i had recently written. I also found out that i had to delete a number of lines because the director didn't want me to introduce that there was a break coming up and what they would be doing after the break.

I felt confident that as a presenter i successfully performed to a high standard as i didn't make a mistake and tried to smile and be energetic at all times in front of the camera, i also was talking to the guests to make them feel comfortable. The was only one mistake in the performance when it came to me and i don't believe it was my fault although i think it was because of lack of communication between the director and floor manager as the camera was live and i was not told of a countdown so there was a few minor seconds of me just standing in front of the camera when it was live.

Here is my final script for the day:
