Pitch 300 Words

Our news package is based on The Manchester Colleges broadcast television class and also the Manchester Colleges music students who will be working together in order to create a live performance that will be getting streamed onto the colleges website, this exercise both will help both sets of students because the music students will benefit from being filmed and getting used to hearing and seeing back there own performances also the broadcast television class will be able to shoot a live performance and get graded on how they do. So for our news package our group have decided to do this because it will show the coming together of two classes working together and maybe could lead to other classes joining in who are specialising in other areas to work together.

We will be filming and interviewing both sets of students and hear there views and opinions of what both groups are doing and how is it beneficial to the college to use the two different classes working together, also we will film the event that both groups will be participating in. Both groups have been rehearsing for the final performance so we have been able to interview them before the show also see how everything looks behind the cameras from the broadcast groups perspective when using the various equipment and changing over important roles such as the director, floor manager and vision mixer to see who would excel at certain roles.

For our final performance will be shooting a live performance of the band performing also with using a presenter this would be television shows such as top of the pops and the old grey whistle test where they would just have a presenter and a band i believe this would be more effective for our audience who just want to listen to music with someone just presenting who the bands are instead of cutting to adverts like they do on the on music shows such as VIVA and T4 which is what most audiences will prefer.

Producer Production Diary

Music Students for our assignment we will be filming and interviewing music students of Manchester College and hearing what they think of the experience of being filmed for the u stream channel of Manchester, also we will be getting the input of the cast working on filming the band who are from the Broadcast Television course who will be working with the music students. Our group is part of the Broadcast Television course so we will be able to also interview students from our group which will be good for when it comes to the live interview where we could interview a student or even one of the tutors about how successful it has been and how he/she believes the group has performed.

For my role i will be the producer which will entitle me helping out with all the equipment, helping with the director and vision mixer also with motivating staff and cast and also helping being the runner. In order to perform in this role i will need to stay alert and keep in touch with both crew and staff, so if they need me for anything i can hopefully supply there needs. Another one of my roles was to get a group together that will be the rest of our cast such as the camera crew, sound engineers other roles that needed to be taken up by people, the way i chose my staff was if i have seen you perform well before you are most likely to be on the team. Mikael, Andy Greenland and Nabeel where all our camera operators this is because i see them as excellent camera operators and work really well as a team offering shots that most other camera operators wouldn't offer to help out the director. Mikael was on the second camera which was on a track which meant that we needed someone to help move the cables along with Mikael, i chose Nyasha to fill in in this role simply because both of these have worked together before on the track and i believed that the succeeded when performing as a duo.

On the sound operating system i had to pick Andy Tabner a lad who from the beginning has shocked me with how much he knows about the audio system with setting up and helping with any audio difficulties who also know exactly what he is doing this is why he was my key man when looking for someone to perform for our television broadcast. Erin was our presenter a young woman who is eccentric on becoming a television presenter and loves performing in front of camera her confidence on camera is also a huge help because just incase anything happens to go wrong she would be able to improvise on the spot a key skill in presenting which is why it was an excellent choice to make her our interviewer and presenter.

When it came to the scripts our director decided to create the script because he is the most trusted and knows what he wants and what to be said, this is the reason why it was important for him to write the script  to be used on the teleprompter although as the producer i looked over the script to make sure that it was discussing the key things that our interview is about also i decided to keep the questions short and quick and not to have huge paragraphs because it is very difficult to read out a paragraph when filming live and under pressure so to keep it quick and easy would be the best option.

The main thing i believe i succeed in with being the producer was keeping everyone entertained, it was a long shoot that ended up taking longer than originally planned so for me too help keep everyone calm, organized and entertained was the right thing to do even if it was to go and get the presenter water and tissues then made sure that she could stay on the stage whilst everyone was running other things. My 100% percent attendance also would have helped me and my group because with out me the group would have missed out on important information that may have helped up in the end shooting also i believe i kept the group in line and up to date with any changes that had happened during the group also with having the mobile numbers and emails it was easy to get in touch with them just to keep them updated.

Our New Idea

After the idea of Emily Rawlins being too hard to do because of the lack of contacts and not being able to find Emily we have to change our idea our second idea was going to based on a mockumentary of The Manchester College's head teacher Peter Taverner but the idea was short lived as Dave recommended us not because it can be seen as a touchy subject and can taken the wrong way by some viewers. After getting back in our group we had to decide on a new subject and as a group decided to do the subject based on the music students who we was filming the day after this was a perfect opportunity to both film and interview the students that came in, in the morning. Elliot Beese was the first student who we watched and interviewed asking questions about his course and what he expected when getting filmed from first year broadcast television students.
This new topic wasn't one that i chose although i do like the idea and is much easier to film as these music students as they are coming into our college to be filmed also music is a subject that everyone likes and with them being new bands coming up through college it will do them good to get some good experience.

Type Of Interview

The type of interview that i want to do is like when T4 interview stars on their programme where they use a set up of 3 camera's and they switch between the presenter, the interviewee and also a wide shot of everyone in shot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyCmHxhEiUY

This is T4 interview includes X Factor 4th placed Cher Lloyd talking about her new song out "Swagger Jagger" i like the way the presenter introduces the interviewee with a close up on the presenter as the first opening shot this both shows where the interviewer is and who it is, i would like to do this for our interview with Emily Rawlins, the second shot is a medium shot of Cher Lloyd after getting welcomed onto the programme this shot shows the audience who she is. The camera then cuts to a wide shot with both the presenter and the interviewee in shot this then proves to the audience that they are speaking to each other this would be beneficial for me personally because it makes it more appealing to the target audience and because we are aiming our interview at people in the college i believe we should take this same approach even though the T4 audience is aiming at attracting teenagers i believe that if our interview was going to put on a television programme channel 4 would be ideal.

Fred Response To Brief

Response to Brief

The first part of our 'News and Current Affairs' Package that we have been set as our first group-based television project. For the assignment, we are required to write and produce a News package production.

There are only a few rules:
- The assignment has to be an informative package that is relevant to The Manchester College
- Has to follow some of the rules and conventions that are used in contemporary news packages
- The sequence must be between 30seconds and 1 minute

We responded to the brief by sitting in our group and discussing possible angles that we could approach this assignment from. We brainstormed our ideas using knowledge that we already had of The Manchester College to see if our combined knowledge could create a unique, interesting and informative news story. We looked at fairly broad and general topics in the hope that we could find a new angle on

The Olympics In Manchester College

For our news report we will need to find out about "into work" project that Emily is a part of, this project is based on helping herself and others find work after leaving the college. We hopefully will be setting up an interview with Emily to hear her thoughts on the olympics, her preparation for the games and about her recent success also about transport to certain area's and why the financial support is needed and where has it came from in the past. The questions we will hopefully be asking would be:

1. What are you looking forward to most in the Paralympics this year?
2. Is it more beneficial that that it is in England for transport?
3. Is it tough work still attending college also training for the Paralympics?
4. How does it make you feel that you are representing your country, city and college and does that add to pressure?

Interview

I have just created my first interview on final cut pro i believe there where a few details that i could have worked on such as the audio, that lack of music not played in the background can make the video seem slightly boring and uninteresting although when editing i tried to use the space above Kas's head to ask the questions. After reviewing everyone else's video i believe it might have been more professional if i included transitions and more GV's

Worried

I am scared and confused the person to the right of me is giving me strange looks
