Setting Up Skype On Tricaster 22nd May

Today we where set a challenge to set up Skype to the tricaster in order for next Wednesdays live show where we will have Max Velody on Skype talking to the whole group, this process is new to the group and no one has done it before which makes it more of a challenge. After getting our group together to work on this process i decided to look on youtube for some advice, i found a few videos such as:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-73E5QpOvac - This video isnt that helpful although it did who us that it was possible to do although not telling us how to do it became a bit of a pain considering it seemed perfect to what we wanted to achieve.
After searching online for more helpful videos the search seemed pointless because there wasn't any helpful video's. With no information off the internet and Peter our tutor not knowing how to use it, we had to resort in trying out different options so first we set up the big television that the Skype call would hopefully be seen on this meant that it was able for the viewers to see who we are calling on Skype. After setting the television up we decided to see if we then could connect it up to the tricaster to see if we can get a picture, but this was still very difficult because we wasn't sure how it exactly worked which meant that we had to ask Colin to help.

When Colin came in he knew exactly what to do which was to set it up through the internet and the tricaster, we had to connect three ethernet cables into this D-Link ethernet box which each led to the mac laptop we where using to Skype, the back of the Tricaster and also into the ethernet port in the wall after connecting all these together and installing a program onto the mac it began to bring up a picture on both the tricaster and on the big screen this is what we where wanting to achieve from the beginning, in order to see if it worked i set up my laptop and Skype called Danny Jack whose laptop had the specific program on.

As you can see it worked perfectly the white wire that is connecting up from my laptop to the television is a HDMI cable that is able to connect from my Mac to the back of the tele in HD this is great because the better the picture quality the clearer it is. I believe that with everything that we learned today that we would be able to take this experience into next week

Evaluation On Comedy On The Streets

After finishing off my VT for “Comedy On The Streets” there where a few mistakes and issues that I had to overcome, and there was something that I wish I would have done one of the things that hasn’t helped me during my full VT was infact the camera that I used to film footage of the interview and where it was filmed, I asked for the help off my director Ashley Artingstall to help my film my interview with my special guest Andrew Lee we used Ashleys DSLR camera as it was small and easy to move around and there wasn’t any tripod needed so no need to rent out equipment, but thinking about it now after everything has been filmed I sincerely regret this because when my special guest came to Manchester for a day especially for the interview the colour was all wrong and only noticing later on when my guest had left to go home I realized  that I wouldn’t be able to film again and my lack of knowledge on final cut has forced me to ask for help off various students although I have been learning by sitting besides them.
When shooting the vox pops I have again noticed after walking away from interviewing students is that the focus isn’t completely correct and the loud noise from the cars in the background isn’t great which is impossible to work with on final cut now. I had a few problems also with motion as I found it difficult to work out how to create a piece of text being typed on although with searching online I soon found out how to and I believe I am better for knowing now, although I chose the typical black background and white writing because it is simple to read because both colours contrast and I would also hate to mess it up after putting so much hard work into creating it. Overall I believe that I should have booked out the correct equipment in order to get the right shots as this wouldn’t mean that I had to rely on Ashley to come and help me film on his portable camera.
I believe our final performance in the show went really well though, I was the producer which meant that I had to work closely with the director and the floor manager and do what ever they asked me to do, I also offered a few ideas out with the set and telling the presenter to come over and sit next to the guest on the couch when interviewing as it makes it look more relaxed and less formal.

16th February Online Diary

When thinking of how i could create this VT about comedy on the streets of Manchester i have visions of me going to various comedy places and filming some stand up routines by young comedians who are interested comedy as a hobby although, but as i have researched more into it i found out that i wouldn't be able to film inside these pubs and clubs because it is illegal to and would have to go through tonnes of staff just to get the permission to film there, this gave me then the idea just to talk about these places where you can do it and tell people on the VT who are interested where the places are and when the comedy nights are open to go.
I knew who my special guest was going to be for the filming an interview because i have grew up with him as a child, his name is Andy Lee and he came second in young comedian of the year and he is from Liverpool, i think he will be brilliant in my VT as he is very intelligent and will know exactly what to say to make it an excellent interview. I also plan on interviewing students as box pops as the audience will be able to relate to them more and take notice of what they are saying. I will also be hopefully creating a piece of graphics on motion to help explain things.

20 February Online Diary

When looking for where i can go and try out stand up comedy in Manchester i decided to search the internet and i found quite a lot of places in the city centre where they have open microphone events for new talent to go and tryout performing comedy on stage in front of a live audience, i found places like:

Castle Hotel – Which has an open mic event every Monday (http://thecastlehotel.info/)
Lass O Gowry – Which is a pub that has open mic event also on a Monday (http://www.thelass.co.uk/)

These types of pubs and clubs made me want to do my VT about comedy because not many people know about it and some people maybe interested in it.

Pre Production Minutes – Comedy On The Streets

In order to realise what a news package that is aimed at students looks like, I had to research into several different new packages to base it on the show that I will be producing in. I looked at television news shows such as BBC News, ITV News and plenty more, our news package has to be half an hour long and consist of various VT’s and a live guest which not many television news shows do and the shows that are like thatare programs like GMTV or BBC Breakfast show where they stick to the news and also include an interview with someone famous or has recently been in the paper with an amazing story, I also looked into shows that are mainly based on teenagers such as T4 and channel fives 60 second news update where they just talk about showbiz these shows are specifically aimed not to warn people about things that have been happening in the world but to keep the audience entertained by showing them footage that will keep them watching.
GMTV and BBC Breakfast are the shows that I believe are most likely to be like our news program Studio 109 this is because they are both entertaining and also intellectual although not really aiming for the same target audience that we are of 18 to 25 year olds I believe there target audience is mainly aimed at mid 30’s because of the content that is on the show.

The style of our news package production is more of a chilled back and relaxed feel where you can go and put your feet up and watch, also it is mainly aimed at people living in Manchester instead of world wide news this again makes it a bit more personal to the viewers watching, the studio set up is very basic too having a presenter sat behind a table also with the guest sat on a couch next to the presenter gives the feeling that it is aimed at students. The content in the show varies which could be seen as being versatile as it can go from filming people busking on the streets of Manchester to learning about troubles of unlicensed taxi cabs these aren’t your average important news bulletins but it could be news that interests students.

Copyright

Copyright is when you take something off either a website or a book or another secondary source of information, its basically like stealing as it wasn’t yours in the first place. It is hard sometimes when you are researching idea’s because you maybe copyrighting someone else’s idea although it can be seen as tolerable if you Harvard reference the line or paragraph that you had taken because it shows it wasn’t your idea.

Group Meetings In Class

13/02/2012 – For Sams assignment i will have to create my own VT to add into the news production after thinking long and hard into what I can do that will be different to most other people would do, i finally came to my decision that to do something that I enjoy doing, talking about things on a brighter note in the modern world you will watch most news programs and hear about the things that have happened that are of a darker nature such as killings, crimes and other horrific things that can send our country into depression. This is why I believe a bit of comedy would be perfect for the news because a good laugh helps everyone when they are feeling down. My title would be called "Laughter When All Things Seem Bad" this title straight away proves that it is going to be aiming at making the audience laugh even though the things that are happening in the news aren't comical at all

05/03/12 -After presenting my pitch to the group I believe it got a positive response off everyone who was watching and wanted to ask me more about it, I believe that my news VT is different as it can be seen as a lighter subject to typical broadcasted television news which will make it more suitable to the target audience of 18-25.  I have already been researching into places in Manchester where there are open mic gigs where comedians can go and tryout comedy so have had a few plans for getting GV’s outside some of the buildings. I also have already arranged my interview with one of my mates from Liverpool who came second in young comedian of the year so will hopefully be filming my interview very soon. My vox pops I would like to get outside a student accommodation because I would want to hear the views from students because that is who we are aiming the show at.

19/03/12 – Groups being chosen – Today we where asked to sit in a circle and gather round the front of the white board as we where about to chosen into our groups where we will design a live news broadcast, the two group leaders and directors where Josh Lloyd and Ashley Artingstall they where chosen because they are arguably the best editors and on the final day there VT would have to be edited in the morning on the final day. The names of the groups where written down on the board to make sure that there was an even line so there where the same amount of people, I was chosen in Ashleys group among other people such as: Jack, Mikael, Nyasha, Luis, Fred, Erin, Andy T and Danny Jack I feel that this is a very strong group but the main problem would be attendance with everyone.

26/03/12 – Potential running order for our VT – After finding out which group we where going to be in the week before we all gathered in a group to discuss the potential VT’s that where suitable for our news production and which order they would go in.  The news that we will be filming will be regional news which means that everything that will be getting filmed is too do and filmed in Manchester. We also wanted to try and fit in everyone VT into a 30 minute production this meant that every VT had to be around 3 minutes long which can be difficult considering how long some interviews with special guests can be, also with having to include 3 vox pops and a piece to camera it all can build up.

16/04/12 – Today we decided on the final running order for the show which is: Kurdish, Busking, Media Jobs, Comedy, Unlicensed Taxis, Sport, Android vs Apple, Animal Cruelty. There will also be a live interview included but we are still debating whether to get an interview for the Kurdish VT or the Busking VT also it is on our minds that for the busking VT that we get in a live band in at the end to finish off the show. We also came up with the name of our show “Studio 109” because we it is the room number where we will be filming also it sounds professional. We also sorted out each person with the own specific role and responsibilities:
Director - Ashley Artingstall
Floor Managers - Nyasha Tsikai
Vision Mixer - Jack Ware
Camera 1 – Mikael Hasanzad
Cameras 2 -Danny Jack
Cameras 3 - Luis Winder
Producer - Matty Jump
Audio - Andrew Tabner
Runner - Fred Velody

21/05/12 – Today was the assessment day where we  where filming our news broadcast, I arrived at 9.30 ready to be a producer when at the last minute I was asked to be the guest on the show because non of the other guests had arrived I felt slightly disappointed because I liked the idea of a live music performance at the end with rolling credits, this meant that not only did I have to be the producer but also a guest so the first thing I had to do was to go and speak to the presenter who was Erin to find out the questions she was going to ask me.  For my role as a producer I was helping with the set ideas another thing I like to do as a producer is build the team up and make them confident about what they are doing which is why is why I compliment them when they have done a good job and also before I go round and see how each of my team is doing. The order for the show was Kurdish, Busking, Media Jobs, Comedy, Guest Interview, Unlicensed Taxis, Sport, Android vs Apple, Animal Cruelty. At the end of the broadcast I felt as if we had done a fantastic job and everything had run smoothly.

Set Design For 21st May

Here is the set design for Studio 109 as you can see we are using 3 camera's to film this television show, the auto cue is connected up with the laptop which enables the presenter to read off. Camera 1 is on a track although it only moves once and that is at the start of the news show, when the presenter goes over and starts speaking to the guest both camera 3 and 2 will spin enabling two shots of the presenter and guest together.
