Research Portfolio Initial Idea's

Before coming reaching our idea we have now of the Music and Media project we went through several other ideas that we now have disowned for various reasons.
After hearing about our assignment that we had to write and research about (The Manchester College) we immediately went onto the colleges website to view what has happened within the college and if we could take any interesting new stories that where on there and expand on them learning about whoever or whatever had happened for them/it to be on the website. The first story that really seemed interesting was about a girl who was in the college called Emily Rawlins who is a paralympic hopeful who is attending the London paralympics in 2012 who also attends Manchester College this immediately seemed to be an interesting story that everyone in our group loved and took an interest in, because we had a star in our college who was taking part in the 2012 olympics. We began researching Emily looking at her recent achievements and learning about her, we we then began to learn that she had to pay for her own travel funds to places to compete which we thought was wrong so came up with trying to make a documentary on her which would hopefully bring in funds for her so she can travel to compete and gain experience.
I found this on a website which explains what achievements Emily has achieved and a bit about her road to becoming a hopeful Paralympic champion in London 2012.

Why Emily Deserves To Be Funded For Her Athletic Career
Noteworthy Performances:
2010 3rd INAS-FID European Championships, Hammer; 1st Mencap National Championships, Hammer & Shot
2009 1st Mencap National Championships, Hammer, Shot & Discus
2008 1st Mencap National Championships, Shot
Emily started athletics through the Sportcity Academy in Manchester and initially showed talent in the Shot Putt. At the Mencap England squad her potential in the Hammer was spotted and she was encouraged to focus on that event. 2010 saw her GB debut where she competed at the European Championships and gained PB's in both the shot and Discus as well as a well deserved Bronze in the Hammer.
Emily is now a member of Sale Harriers in Manchester and regularly competes for the club in a mixture of fixtures. In her spare time she has taken her field officials qualification and supports the club at a range of fixtures.

After the idea of Emily Rawlins being too hard to do because of the lack of contacts and not being able to find Emily we had to change our idea our second idea was going to based on a mockumentary of The Manchester College's head teacher Peter Taverner but the idea was short lived as Dave recommended us not because it can be seen as a touchy subject and can taken the wrong way by some viewers. After getting back in our group we had to decide on a new subject and as a group decided to do the subject based on the music students who we was filming the day after this was a perfect opportunity to both film and interview the students that came in, in the morning. Elliot Beese was the first student who we watched and interviewed asking questions about his course and what he expected when getting filmed from first year broadcast television students.
